White Wedding Dresses Are Rarely Colorless
White is a familiar color. In wedding gowns there seem countless shades and hues of white - pure white, diamond white, eggshell, ivory, even champagne. Though the names of these "white" colors reveal something about how "white" the dresses are, brides-to-be may still experience confusion and should seek consultation to find a gown that not only fulfills their preference but also complements their skin tone.
Softer, more subtle than stark white, diamond white has been a popular choice as it is considered appropriate for all skin colors; all designers offer diamond white gowns in their collections. Maggie Sottero's white diamond chiffon gown has an elegantly draped skirt and beautiful bodice with asymmetrical lace embellishment.
Ivory is a yellowish white. Bian Feng's strapless ivory taffeta and satin A-Line gown features a horizontally wrapped and pleated bodice embellished with beaded embroidery. The back has a zippered corset closure.
Should the color champagne really be considered a shade of white? It is really up to the beholders. Like the sparkling wine, it exudes a romantic aura, as showcased in Ulla Maija's duchess satin fluted column gown.
With many variations of white offered by top bridalwear designers make sure to consider the alternatives offered in your choice of fabric. Do not automatically order the sample color when an alternative hue may be available, consider the venue lighting as well as skin complexion.
